Welcome to GHSVM.com, your source of information for the Grimsley High School Vocal Music Department! This site is the gateway for students, parents, alumni and friends to stay connected to the vibrant and exciting world of singing at Grimsley. In 2006 we celebrated the anniversary of the first 100 years of organized singing at our school, and the 40th anniversary of our premier ensemble, the Madrigal Singers. Indeed, the tradition of great music-making runs deep here in Whirlie Country, and we are so excited to offer this venue to keep our past, present and future singers aware of the great opportunities available to keep the traditions alive and thriving. Thank you for visiting GHSVM.com, and may a song be ever in your heart!
Marshall Johnson, Director
Vocal Music Director Marshall Johnson is proud to continue Grimsley High School's century-old singing tradition. After completing his Bachelor of Music Education degree at UNC-Greensboro and his Master of Music in Choral Conducting at The Ohio State University, Mr. Johnson taught in public and private K-12 schools in Ohio, North Carolina and South Carolina before embarking on a career as a professional ensemble singer in New York City. After numerous concerts in many of the world's great performing halls with top artists, he won a position in the internationally acclaimed men's a cappella ensemble Chanticleer, with whom he won a GRAMMY® nomination for the recording “Our American Journey”. Mr. Johnson is now honored to be teaching at Grimsley where he student taught in 1994 and took the mantle of director in 2004, continuing the musical legacies forged by North Carolina teaching legends Eula Tuttle and Marta Force.
